I’m rolling my eyes over Rocky: The Musical as much as the next guy, but A League of Their Own should definitely be a musical. “There’s No Crying (In Baseball)” would be a killer act-one closing number. (Also, here’s my first feature piece for Flavorwire.)

Chess fans may be interested in this chart I put together this past summer comparing how songs are used across some of the more well-known productions and concerts. This image is only the tip of the iceberg, really, when it comes to how many variations are out there and how different they can be.

I can’t say for sure how accurate all of these song listings are and in a few places I tweaked things to make comparison easier. The color highlighting is there to make it easier to find songs that move around a lot or change names.

This is what we call a "forced separation."

Work has been so crazy, I have not been able to keep up with tumblog. Hoping things return to normal operations soon!

In the meantime, I now have lined up tickets for The Book of Mormon; One Man, Two Guvnors; and Newsies. I am quite excited.

I have three other slots for shows still open during my trip. I’m considering:

Ghost, Anything Goes, Carrie (if it’s still open - I swear I read somewhere it was a limited engagement, but I can’t find a closing date anywhere. Mayhaps I am wrong?), Once, Spider-Man 2.0, and Rent.

So many shows, so little time.

Let's Talk Grosses! (Week #31)

Broadway Grosses. Week ending 1/1/2012. (2012! Crazy-pants!) Numerous 9-show schedules. Let’s do this.

New Shows

Bonnie & Clyde wrapped up its last week on Broadway by pulling in a personal-best $526,181 - an 86.85% cap with average tickets cost coming in at nearly 75 dollars. A great way to go out.

Lysistrata Jones also had a great week, jumping back to above 60% cap and bringing in its personal best, $326,500. Sadly, even with the jump, the show announced it would be closing on Jan. 8.

Another new musical for this season, Godspell, pulled in slightly more than $602,000 over 9 shows, while Porgy and Bess notched $817,960 over 8 previews.

Movers and Shakers

The dynamic duo of The Lion King and Wicked were, surprisingly (har-har), up from last week with the addition of a show this week. They didn’t take the cake this week though! (More on this BELOW.)

How to Succeed, The Addams Family and Hugh Jackman were the three of the biggest jumps up from last week. Hugh and Addams were closing and Dan was leaving H2$, so, not terribly surprising. I’ll be interested to see what the grosses do for Darren’s turn as Finch, as well as Nick Jonas’ when the time comes.

Sister Act was the most surprising, though. Last week, the show pulled in just over $400,000. This week they nearly hit $1.3 million. Yowzah.

The best news, though? Not a single show earned less this week than last week. There also wasn’t a single capacity below 50%. That’s something to be excited about.

Spider-Man, or, the Billion-Dollar Musical that Could, Update

Exciting news for my favorite BG obsession: Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark! The show broke the one-week record for total gross! It pulled in a gigantic $2,941,790.20, surpassing Wicked’s 2011 record of $2,228,235. All over 9 shows, natch. Now that’s something to be proud of in the headlines.
